Flat ceilings in bedrooms and halls
We clear the room, cover the floor and walls in plastic, and run a HEPA air machine so the space stays under negative pressure through cleanup.
Typical cost in Woodbury
Your painter wants a smooth ceiling, but old popcorn texture is on MDH’s list of possible asbestos materials. A lab sample settles the question. If asbestos shows up, we seal the room, mist the texture and scrape it down into bags, leaving a bare surface for the next trade.
We scrape ceilings in Woodbury, Maplewood and Oakdale homes. Ceilings lost their exemption from the state asbestos work rules on July 1, 2021, and that change covers single-family homes as well as buildings with up to four units.

We clear the room, cover the floor and walls in plastic, and run a HEPA air machine so the space stays under negative pressure through cleanup.
A vaulted living room or a two-story entry means more ceiling to reach. Our crew sets up a rolling scaffold inside the containment for those rooms and carries the plastic sheeting further up the walls, so the whole height stays sealed.
Some ceilings have been painted over or carry old water stains. We note both on the site visit.
An intact ceiling that nobody will disturb can simply stay. The time to sample is when a plan comes up to sand it, swap a light or put in a ceiling fan.
A ceiling in a home turns into regulated work for an MDH-licensed contractor once more than 6 square feet of friable material is involved. Smaller areas are not regulated, and MDH warns that this doesn’t make them safe.
A little preparation on your side shortens the job.
Moving your things out before we arrive saves time on setup day. Furniture, rugs and pictures should go. Light fixtures, fans and smoke alarms can stay for us to wrap or remove.
Mention your plans for the ceiling, such as new texture, a skim coat or plain paint. That tells us how smooth to leave it when the scraping is finished.
